Little White Lies- Frankie and Ella

Little White lies is a bi-monthly, British independant film review magazine that features writing, illustration and photography, published by a creative agency The Church of London.
What is unique about the niche magazine is its creative design. Each issue of Little White Lie is inspired by it feauture film, represented on the cover by an illustration of it lead actor. the cover film also influences interior aspects, such as editorial icons, chapter headings and custom typefaces. however, the overall template of the magazine remains the same.
Little white lies splits its content up into six chapters; the lead review, an editorial introduction, a series of articles inspired by the feature film, theatrical reviews, the back section and future releases.
The bi-monthly magazine is distrabuted throughout the UK and is stocked in shops including WHSmith, HMV, Urban Outfitters and many of the UK's leading independent cinemas such as the Picturehouse Cinemas.

Below is a video that Little White Lies released, it shows the making of  the Black Swan issue. From this clip we are able to gage an insite of the making of the magazine, such as the content, publishers, target audience and the style of magazine;

  • Every issue is focused on a particular film, contains interviews with the stars, directors etc.
  • The style is retro and artistic, for example they use type writers appears more graphic and not uniform.
  • Target audience are film enthusiasts, art fan and a more educated audience, due to the language. Also after further research we found that 63% of the demographic are male and 51% are aged 25-35.
  • Less than 7% of the magazine are adds, in contrast to 50% in Glamour. This leads to where they get there income from if they aren't making the money from the add pages could possibly from the readers. After researching there revenue stream, over 50% subscribe to their magazine, this could be because it costs £6 per issue and £29 for a years subscription, therefore working out cheaper for the subscribers.
